New bishop for Liverpool Archdiocese

A priest who was ordained by Pope John Paul during 1982 visit to England, has been appointed auxiliary bishop for Liverpool Archdiocese.

Fr Tom Neylon was born in Warrington and studied at Ushaw College. Since then he has worked almost entirely in West Lancashire parishes.

He said: “There is a very strong Catholic presence in this part of England. Throughout my life I have been privileged to witness testimony to the Catholic faith in families, in parishes and in schools.

Fr Tom explained that one of the strong themes to come out of the recent archdiocesan synod was service.

“It is in this spirit that I hope to live my life as an auxiliary bishop,” he said.

• Fr Tom will be ordained bishop on Friday 03 September at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.
