Former church building will help the homeless

A former Cardiff church has been converted into a community centre for people seeking shelter or support.

St Clare’s Church, Ely Bridge, is halfway to becoming St Vincent’s Community Centre, in a partnership between parishioners, Cardiff Archdiocese and the St Vincent de Paul Society.

The project grew out of an ecumenical scheme with other churches across the city.

Phase one included a major refurbishment of the whole site. Phase 2 is currently underway and will provide a kitchen, café, food bank, computer training room and childrens’ play area.

The next stage will lead to a drop-in facility and training or counselling rooms. There is also the possibility of another SVP shop, alongside those already operating in other parts of the diocese.
